My magnanimouse offer to Jeremy Hunt

I asked Richard, my editor, to make a very special offer to Jeremy Hunt, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, on behalf of Britain's beleaguered battered economy. Read it here.

Dear Chancellor,

As you will know, one of Franklin D Roosevelt’s earliest acts as President in 1933 was to invite Shirley Temple to the White House. With good reason, he sought to thank the child actress for her contribution to creating a happier mood in the American economy.

My lodger, Mortimer Mouse, has asked me to write on his behalf to offer the same service to the current British economy. He has been described as the world’s leading optimistic philosopher, as a supplier of motivational maxims. You may well have encountered his work already (without attribution) inside a greeting card or Christmas cracker or outside a tea mug. He has now gathered his personal favourites in a slim but inspiring and sumptuously illustrated volume Keep Squeaking Through (published by Xerus Publishing). I would be glad to send you a copy (and I may say that Rachel Reeves has already requested several for her team) but I cite some samples below. I think you would agree from them alone that Mortimer is capable of generating a “Temple Effect”.

·      “The colder the night the brighter the stars”

·      “Some people can see the light at the end of every tunnel. Others put a tunnel in front of every light”

·      “No matter how slippery, any slope goes up as well as down”

·      “For your New Year’s resolution, why not give up giving up?”

·      “Life is just the bread in your sandwich of dreams”

This offer is made with no strings attached – not even cheese strings. Mortimer is a patriot. He asks me to say that if just one of his little maxims were to nudge up GDP by one little percentage point that would be all the reward he seeks or needs. You can read more about him, his book and his collaborators, especially his wonderful illustrator through this link    https://southlondon.co.uk/area/southwark/mouse-gives-new-reasons-to-be-cheerful/

We look forward to hearing from you and your officials.
